I am a huge jazz fan. I absolutely love it. I was blessed with a musical family and we are all very eclectic with our genres. A few years back, a friend of mine introduced me to Sunday nights at Humphrey's. I then introduced my baby daddy to them, and he and I have gone a few times over the years to listen to some awesome jazz. Last year, he burned a cd for me of this Saxophonist, Jackiem Joyner.
"I know you will love this," he said. He was right. I immediately took to Jackiem's music and have been a fan ever since. 2 days ago, Jonathan (baby daddy) asked me to go to Humphrey's on Sunday. Of course, I said yes! What I didn't know was that Jackiem Joyner was going to be performing that night. "Duh, that's why I wanted to go..." Jono said. LOL... I got so excited and had a great time! He played 3 sets. His band was amazing. One musician in particular stood out to me. His name is Kayta Matsuno, the guitarist. This guy had major skills! I talked to him between sets, told him who my uncle was, and he immediately asked me for my email address. LOL... BTW, he used to have two Taylors, until one was stolen. :( He said, "Taylors are the best!" I quite agree. I took some video, but I am having trouble uploading it...
Peep his website jackiemjoyner.com
Some of my faves are Take Me There off of his album Lil' Man Soul, released in 2009. Also, he did a cover of Lost Without You by Robin Thicke, on that album.
During his set he played a cover of Say Yes by Floetry. This is one of my all time favorite songs, and I was so happy to hear his rendition... Hopefully he has it up on his site. It was awesome.
XOXO,
Lo Lo
